Encorporating a letter box into a brick or block retaining wall is something we are often asked by clients to build here at Dans Landscape Bricklaying.

There are many letterbox inserts to choose from. Square, rectangle, silver, black, white, big and small,or custom design. There is a style to complement your brick or block colour. We chose the round face silver one.

And so begins the round face letter box series.

One day, many years ago, a younger me was browsing the letter box isle at my local bunnings. I was searching for a letter box insert to incorporate into a fence I was building.

Shocked at the extravagant prices of the square ones, I stumbled upon some round face letterboxes. And to my great pleasure they were only $10 each. 'YES!!' I thought to myself 'what a saving!!' So guess what... Yes I came home with not one, but 3. Which have moved house with me ever since. I am pleased to announce that finally this year 2025 my last round face letter box found its permanant home.

No 1. Round Face Letter Box: 2016 the beginning of an era. This fence is constructed by DLB, We dug, formed and poured the concrete footing. The main structure of the fence is cement blocks faced with iron stone that was found on the property. We reclaimed some old cottage style iron gates and planted a Lily Pilly Hedge to create privacy and fill in the gap between the piers. Notice also the beautiful paving job by DLB too.

No. 2. Round Face Letter Box, 2024, Looks elegant in this modern front fence and formalises the boundary of this property. DLB is licenced and experienced to form and pour concrete footings to support brick and block work. This construction is a rendered block wall constructed by DLB.

No 3. Something about a letter box, its a little detail, with big impacts, its an essential part of a home, it says 'Community, send me a letter, I am here' This letterbox was incorporated into a English Bond double brick retaining wall. One of the oldest and strongest brick bonds in bricklaying. The bricks are dry pressed solids form #namoivalleybricks they come on a pallet in seperate colours and need to be blended by an experienced brick layer to achieve this lovely look. The colours are Dark, Reds, and Blondes, and they have a lot of character.

And that is the end of the round face letterbox series. Cheers!

Thank you to the clients who liked the round one and I hope you are enjoying your limited edition letterbox built by Dan at DLB.

I'll keep keeping my eyes open for another bargain, maybe next time they will be square!
